Im not gonna give you the full deal on securing wordpress, there are dozens of this tutorials out there just waiting to be read. I just want to point out a stage that no one should skip, its crucial to your wordpress integrity. Securing the wp-admin folder though very important its very easy to be done. You just have to place a .htaccess file inside the wp-admin folder with the following directives and your wp-admin folder will be restricted to your ip address only. here is the htaccess code:

Order deny,allow
Allow from 1.1.1.1
Allow from 1.1.1.2
Deny from all
this will restrict the access to these 2 ip’s 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.2. But you can restrict access to a full range of ip’s like this

Order deny,allow
Allow from 1.1.1.
Deny from all

this will restrict the access to this range 1.1.1.*, Or you can use domain names instead

Order deny,allow
Allow from .provider.net
Deny from all

this will restrict the access to *.provider.net

I hope this will help you keep your wordpress websites safe.

Its very simple to deny certain ip’s or domain names from htaccess. For example if from various reasons you dont want some persons accessing your site anymore you just need to add the following to you htaccess file:

order allow,deny
deny from 1.1.1.3
deny from 2.2.2.
allow from all

This will allow access from anyone except “1.1.1.3″ and “2.2.2.*”. You can also use domain names instead of ip’s for example if you add deny from *.provider.net no one with that host name will be able to access your website.

Thats it simple short tutorial on how to Deny certain IP using htaccess file

A Favicon is a little custom icon that appears next to a website’s URL in the address bar of a web browser. And when I say little, I mean 16 pixels by 16 pixels. So if you like a good design challenge try your hand at this one. All you need to add a Favicon to your site is a Windows Icon (.ico) file called favicon.ico that you upload to the main directory of your website.

You’ll need the Windows Icon (ICO) file format Photoshop Plugin to export to the .ico file format. You can download the plugin from Telegraphics. The plugin reads and writes ICO files in 1, 4 and 8-bit Indexed and 24-bit RGB modes, and also reads and writes 32-bit “XP” icons (with 8-bit alpha channel). Make sure to install the plugin before you begin this tutorial.

Now because 16×16 is such a small space to be creative its gonna be hard to get something nice done, but dont worry that much, most of sites just use a letter on a colored background or 2 letter with a custom font. So it doesent needs to be extravagant. After you’ve installed the plugin You can start by creating a new file with File > New… now set the width and height to 16×16 pixels and hit Ok. Now its a good idea to increase the zoom on the picture by holding alt and scrolling with your mouse wheel. Now be creative and make a favicon that people will remember and also gets together well with the design of your website mainly with the colors of your website. After you are done go to File > Save as… in the format box select “Ico (Windows Icon) (*.ICO)” and save your file as “favicon.ico“. Now you just need to upload the file named favicon.ico into your home page directory next to your index file. On most modern browsers the favicon will now be loaded automatically but there are some known issues with older browsers that i’m not covering in this article.

note: if you uploaded your favicon file and you are using Mozilla Firefox to view your website, you need to clear your cache for the favicon to load, you can do that by hitting ctrl+shift+delete and then click on Clear Private Data

And there you have it : How to create a favicon.ico using Photoshop

Writing Microsoft 70-643 windows server 2008 applications infrastructure, configuring and Microsoft MB2-632 applications in dynamics CRM professional is not an onerous task for an HP0-S14 design & implementation of HP SIM for ISS solutions professional as he has done Cisco 646-563 advanced security for account managers as well as Microsoft 70-237 designing messaging solutions with exchange server 2007 and Cisco 642-515 securing networks with ASA advanced in his career.

In this example im gonna show you how to restrict access to a directory named “restricted” to a single ip, so when any other ip that is not in the list tries to access that directory it will get a page saying

Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /restricted on this server.

The explanations work on Debian with Apache2 tested by me, but also it should work on any other OS and Apache2 version. Here is how you do it: you need to edit the following file /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and you do that with the following commmand:

nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/default

now at the end of the file on top of </VirtualHost> you need to add the following:

<Directory “/var/www/restricted/”>
Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from 1.1.1.1
</Directory>

replace “1.1.1.1″ with your ip and “/var/www/restricted/” with the path to the directory you want to restrict access to.

Now press ctrl+x and then Y to confirm and save the modifications. Now we need to reload the config file with the following command and we are done.

/etc/init.d/apache2 reload

Most of the Microsoft 70-624 deploying and maintaining windows vista client and 2007 office system desktops and Microsoft 70-238 deploying messaging solutions with exchange server 2007 professionals deem Cisco 642-971 data center network infrastructure design and Microsoft 70-453 for transition MCITP SQL server 2005 DBA mandatory for every IBM 000-960 storage sales.

I always hate the thing that after a new install of Debian(which is my favourite server OS) and Apache2(very stable webserver) i get that footer on List and Error pages that presents whoever visits that page with full info on name and version of modules installed. Thats not very safe, because these days the web is full of exploits and i dont want some script kiddie to find a nice exploit and deface my website because of the info provided by Apache. So here is what you need to do to remove that information:

with the following command we edit the apache2 config file:

nano /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

now press ctrl+W to open the find prompt and search for “ServerTokens”, you will now see a line that usually is set by default to ServerTokens Full, go ahead and change that line to ServerTokens Prod. Setting this to Prod only displays Apache and nothing else.

now press ctrl+W again to open the find promp and search for “ServerSignature” you will now see a line that usually is set by default to ServerSignature On, go ahead and change that line to ServerSignature Off. The ServerSignature directive allows the configuration of a trailing footer line under server-generated documents.

Now press ctrl+x and the Y to save to changes we made and run the following command to reload the Apache config:

/etc/init.d/apache2 reload

Everything is done, you now have a more secured webserver.
